October 2003

I was very tired and fell fast asleep. I felt myself sinking into the soft blankets and the cool air on my face was soothing.

I was talking to someone in my dream. I can't remember for sure if I knew them. I went to the store and bought a pregnancy test instead of Tampons. I had skipped my period and wondered if it was possible that I might be pregnant. So I purchased the test and went home. I urinated into a paper cup and dipped the tester into my urine specimen. To my surprise the test showed positive. I didn't believe it. I've had a tubule legation and thought that the test must be inaccurate. So I made an appointment with my Family Doctor.

The Doctor greeted me with a big smile.

"Congratulations! You're going to be a mother."

Me, "Oh my God! How could this be? I had my tubes tied."

Doctor, “On rare occasions this happens.”

Me, "I have never used birth control for all these years. How could I have gone that long without getting pregnant?"

Doctor, “Did you want to get pregnant?"

Me, “I wasn't trying to. I never thought it was possible."

Doctor,” Then consider yourself blessed."

Me, “Yes I am blessed. The Lord has given to me a child against scientific possibilities. I can't wait to tell my husband! “

So I went home to tell my husband. Just as he walked into the doorway I announced the news.

Me, "Hey honey I have something to tell you.”

Husband, “What?"

Me, "Do you believe in miracles?"

Husband, “I don't know. Why, has something happened?"

Me, "YES something very big has happened to me."

Husband, " What do you mean by BIG?”

Me, “Well I don't really mean big, as in big."

Husband, “Is this a guessing game?” rolling his eyes.

Me, “No. I have great news and it involves me, you and someone else."

Husband, “Who else are you talking about? Did you get more work? Win the Lotto?"

Me, “Better because I'm pregnant."

Husband, "What the? How can that be?"

Me, “The Doctor confirmed it. I'm pregnant."

Husband, “Swear to God this is true.”

Me, “Yes I swear to you that it is true."

He came to me with a big hug and wrapped his arms around me picking me up and twirled me around in circles kissing my face.

Husband, “Victoria, you're the most incredible woman I've ever known. I'm a lucky man!"

Me, “Yes you are!"

Husband, “If this is a boy, I'm naming him Lucky!”

I laugh, “What if it's another girl?"

Husband, “I don't care what sex the child is. I 'm so happy I can't think straight."

Me, “If it's a girl, her name will be Destiny."

My husband and I took the family to dinner. We ordered champagne and toasted to this wonderful news. My daughters are excited as we are. The restaurant manager overheard our news and said the dinner was on the house!

We went home then went to sleep.

I woke up.

Too bad it was a dream. It felt so real.

I still feel blessed.
