During my turbulent childhood, there was a swarm of moving from place to place. My Mother had taken on a new boyfriend whom we will call "Brown Angel". He was not the sort of man that would fit into the lifestyle of a normal setting. My Mom was introduced to him by her brother. Mom and Brown Angel hit if off, they spent much of their time together. My mother and I moved into a house with another woman who rented two bedrooms to us. At first she and I moved into the house, then after many nights of Brown Angel spending the night over, the owner of the house told my Mom to just go ahead and move him in. I was not happy about it. I felt it was not a good idea because they were not married. Brown Angel never worked, he stayed home while my Mom worked and I went to school. I hated the idea of him getting a free ride.
After a few months of living with this woman, she and my Mom began to fight on a daily basis. When they would fight, Brown Angel would step in and make all matters worse. He made the owner of the home very angry. She grew tired of all of us and asked us to move. I can't say that I blame her; Brown Angel was a Chollo, just like in the movies. He sported Dickies and white T-shirts and his body was covered with tattoos. His appearance gave the impression that he was a gangster. My Mom never saw him as others did. She felt love for him which blinded her from his appearance.
My Mother moved all of the furniture out of the house while I was at school. She picked me up and told me that we would be living at Brown Angels uncle’s house. His uncle just happened to live on my grandmother’s street. When we first arrived I noticed right away that all my belongings were not there just my clothes and a few pillows. Mom had put what little we had in storage. She told me that this was a temporary place to live, in till she and Brown Angel could get started off in a new place to live. I really had no say to it. It was put on me like all the other moves. Once again I had to change schools; once again I am back in the Heights where I had spent most of my life.
